The idea for this watch came when I was driving home after having my second child (which was quite a struggle). Our street has beautiful trees and it was late summer. I had an intense feeling of coming home and I wanted to capture that feeling. So I decided to design a watch displaying a tree and its leaf’s changing colours per season. This also represents the seasons we go thru in life. Becoming a father made me so much more aware of life and its challenges that I became devoted to make this watch . Kneijnsberg & van Eijk beliefs everybody has these kind of moments, looking at your Tree of life time piece will help you remember or help you find relief in the fact that there will be another season.
Many drawings and calculations were made before starting on the design of the several parts. I wanted to make something that was true to the first motivation I had for making this watch so I decided to go with my feeling and design something I feel did justice to the tree and its distinguished appearance changing every season. The rectangular shape of the case release the tree of its confinement which it would have in a round dial. The MOP dial would support the organic feel and would add to the wonderful colours the skies would display during sunset or sunrise. The way in which the strap is connected to the case supports the smooth shape and brings a more fluent line into the watch.
Without the help of my family and friend it would not have come to this so I would like to thank all of you for supporting me. My special thanks goes out to:
Emile Pen, a designer who made the designs for the dial.
Celia Rosa, a creative concept machine who gave her thoughts on our logo.
Kees de Graaff, a renowned photographer who gave me inspiration for the website and photographs.
Joep van Drunen, who made product shots.
Marije de Graaff, my wife and everlasting inspiration (and of course the one who keeps me in check) Appelonia and Olympe Horneman, my two girls and the major inspiration behind my work.
